This is the only music theory book that I've ever read, so I cannot make a comparative judgement. Owing to connection issues, I was largely unable to use the audio portions of the book (ear training and some exercises). All of what it explains it explains so clearly that one cannot misunderstand it - indeed some of the explanations go on ad nausaem. Each chapter has several exercises. There is a very thorough index. There is also a short further list at the end (though half the books are written by the author!).
