A United Kingdom features an interracial relationship between Ruth Williams a white British clerk and Seretse Khama, who was from the most powerful Botswana tribe. It is difficult to imagine there was a time when there was controversy over an interracial marriage, but in the 1940s this was a reality. This relationship started a political storm in both England and Africa causing them to risk losing everything to be together. Before this movie, I did not know much about the history of Botswana and its independence. This movie inspired me to learn more about their history and the true story, which the biographical film was based. Combined with romance, history, politics, and intrigue, this story shares an important message about a couple truly in love and of equality. Everyone should see this excellent movie. 5/5. @janmarrow1225 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

This is a lovely movie about personal integrity that shows the significance of individual choices on the lives of others, nations, and the world (history). This is a movie of great political importance. Our world would be so different, more peaceful and fair if we had more leaders like Seretse and Ruth who were guided by love, compassion and the greater good for all rather than personal gain, oppression and greed.

A True role model. Agree whole heartedly with those reviewers I "liked"- what more to say? If I missed something, forgive me. :-)

Excellent movie. Starts in 1947 and is a love story, between a black man and white woman. Something was wrong with the time line, Queen Elizabeth was mentioned and it was King George VI that was the British ruler during that time. King George died in 1952, then Queen Elizabeth became the British Queen. This movie outlines the independence of Botswana and the acceptance of interracial marriage.

Prior to viewing this docu-drama movie read the historical account "Colour Bar" by Susan Williams (Penguin, 2007) which presents the Botswanan cultural background and the colonial political scheming.

Humbling story that highlights the arrogance of the "ruling" class, juxtaposed to the needs of the average person. Also, the continued ignorance and bad decisions that are made when distant rulers think they know better than the people living their lives, or that they can dupe them into thinking what the rulers want for themselves is good for the resident people. Also, the motivation and strength of character that love gives to people individually and collectively is beautifully portrayed. The end part that introduces us to the people the story was based upon is also an enriching view. It is an engaging story, well acted.
