My least favorite of the Anna Pigeon series. Mostly about surviving in extreme circumstances (cold and fire) with a little bit of a murder mystery thrown in at the end. Still gonna keep reading the series however.
Based on the simply ok prior book, Ill Wind, I was gob-smacked by how great Barr's aptly named Firestorm is. The tense pacing of story is consistent throughout as Anna struggles to both survive and determine the killer's identity. You may end up checking your smoke detectors above you as you read. I sure hope her remaining books can approach the quality of Firestorm.
Nevada Barr is one of the best out there to put you in the moment with her vivid detailing of place. You feel the fear, the heat, the pain, along with her characters. You are dropped in the center of a forest fire firestorm, and come out with the smoke and fire damage to prove it. A good mystery, with the question, who did not want to kill the victim more to the point that who did. Well worth reading.
