... shows a rather different side of Moses, the Stone Age and the Roman Empire - in which Brooks is a stand-up philosopher playing Caesar's Palace. Next, the truth is finally told about the Spanish Inquisition in a splashy production number featuring song-and-dance monks and swimming nuns ... It's history as you've never known it - completely irreverent and positively hilarious. -- Container.

Enjoyable look at ancient history, "Mel Brooks style". Not his funniest, but nevertheless good Sat. night fare -- with a few rye laughs, a couple of guffaws, a snort, and several snickers. Usual cast of Brooks characters, SId Caesar, Madeline Kahn, Dom DeLuise, and Gregory Hines are especially good. The Inquisition bit foreshadows "Springtime for Hitler" from The Producers.

The most stupid pointless film I'd ever seen.
