I thought this movie should have been better, considering it's part of the Alien franchise. But there was some cool action in it.

“Prometheus 2012” was a 4 of 5 star watch for me and this one is nearly as good. Fassbender reprised as a “calculating” synthetic android in this sequel but without Rapace, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron. Mostly, agree with mr_chocolate’s comments but felt that the plot could have hinged on some accident or logical twist (how about doping by David?) rather than frequent foolish decisions that led to a sinister future of the colonization ship Covenant .

Prometheus introduced several new concepts to the Alien franchise and is probably my least favourite, but this sequel makes a concerted effort to bridge with the earlier films that follow it. Unfortunately, a gestational period of an hour or so is not credible and the result of David's work/hubris seems to be branching off. I think we have to expect a sequel to this.

I liked it better than Prometheus. But I do highly recommend watching Prometheus first.

I watched this because I highly respect director Ridley Scott and actor Michael Fassbender, but I really doubted that much new of substance could be added after the first two Aliens. I was right. After the first few shocking killings, the remainder were kinda' repetitive. The ending was almost a copy of the ending of "life." The "Life" with Jake Gyllenhaal, not the film about James Dean.

I though this film started out slowly and didn't live up to the promise of Prometheus. I was hoping for more backstory on the "Engineers".

I was impressed with this sequel to 2012 film, Prometheus, and prequel to the 1979 Alien classic. I did find that the difference between David and Walter was minimal and somewhat weak, however, did interestingly able to tie up the most of the questions asked in the previous film. The only one main question, unanswered, is of whom the Engineers are and their background.
It is another imaginative look at what can happen when humans create and depend upon, Artificial Intelligence.
The Special Features add some deleted and extended scenes.
I ranked this pretty high for the story and delivery, but falls short of being as scary and unique as the original Alien film.

This movie is awful. To think this movie was directed by same person as the original Alien masterpiece of horror and science fiction. The cast is completely forgettable. What's the point of this exercise in boredom? The special effects are lame. How many times are we going to see the creature come out of the chest? Ridley Scott is really shooting blanks in this flick.

Directed by Ridley Scott, expected something better than this. No stars.

*mild spoilers* You know the expression: "greater than the sums of its parts"? Well, this is the opposite. Fantastic direction, actors and a lot of cool ideas... But it all falls apart in the third act. I don't want to give away too much but Dr. Shaw not being in it is so annoying. Didn't they learn anything from Alien 3 where characters from the previous film were just gone... Dr. Shaw was an interesting character from Prometheus on a mission to understand why the Engineers wanted humanity destroyed. That's the movie I wanted to see. I really like a lot of the characters and ideas in it but it was like the ideas were on post-it notes and just crammed into a script that wasn't polished. What they did with Shaw's character and smart character suddenly getting really, really, really stupid just caused this film to fall flat. Everyone knows what's going on at the end, except the characters on screen. Supposedly brilliant scientists and engineers should not be dumber than every single audience member.

Many quotes in IMDb. This is from prologue:

Walter: All these wonders of art... design, human ingenuity... All utterly meaningless in the face of the only question that matters. Where do we come from? I refuse to believe that mankind... is a random by-product of molecular circumstance. No more than the result of... Mere biological chance. No. There must be more. And you and I, son, we will find it.
David: Allow me then a moment to consider. You seek your creator. I am looking at mine. I will serve you, yet you're human. You will die, I will not.
