Set in rural Wyoming, a Fish and Wildlife Officer and local hunter Cory Lambert (played by Jeremy Renner) discovers the body of an aboriginal woman. Cory Lambert’s marriage fell apart after the unsolved murder of his daughter and perhaps this is the reason he was so eager to help the fish out of water FBI Agent (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and tribal police chief (played by Graham Greene) solve this crime. Was it a family member, her boyfriend or just a random act of violence? Watch to find out.
In recent years, awareness surrounding the plight of missing and murdered aboriginal women has been brought into the mainstream consciousness and the federal government of Canada has launched a National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Even with this increased attention, it is still not known how many aboriginal women go missing in Canada each year. While this movie takes place in the United States, the answer still remains the same.

Very slow and boring movie. Many scenes did not make sense to us and the mass shooting at the end of the movie was simply ridiculous. Acting was not that great, somewhat flat characters. In the end this movie was just waste of our time. Cannot recommend it.

This is a very good movie enjoyed from the beginning to the end. I think most that view and left a comment saw it that way others may have fallen asleep.

"Gripping" and "Thrilling" are adjectives used to describe this movie.

I my mind, neither apply. That doesn't mean the movie is bad, just the marketing.

What moved me the most is the pain and depression left in the wake of sudden unexplained death. In this case, two daughters of two Native American families whose lives are snuffed out in two separate, seemingly unrelated instances. In the first case, it ends a marriage of Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner), Wyoming Fish and Wildlife officer. In the second case--this particular case--It's too soon to tell the fate of the fractured family. Actor Gil Birmingham (younger movie goers will recognize him from the Twilight Saga movie series) provides a stand-out performance as the father struggling to surmount his grief.

Sounds like a downer, right? Wrong. It's a good story, told well, but not nearly the movie the "team" responsible created with Sicario and perhaps Hell or High Water. Many of the supporting cast appear in these two former films. All do as well as they can here, but there's not as much to work with. That's especially true of Elizabeth Olsen as an FBI agent, whose previous film performance as a haunted, traumatized cult victim (Martha Marcy May Marlene) promised so much.

This murder mystery thriller, starring Jereme Renner ("The Hurt Locker"), takes place in the Wyoming Wind River Indian Reservation where Renner finds the body of a young Native American woman lying in the snow. Renner, completely familiar with the landscape (he is a tracker of wild animals that kill farm animals), helps the FBI and local police solve the murder mystery. This film won the Cannes Camera d'Or prize which is the prize given to the best first film. It is one of those rare American films that use Native Americans to depict Native Americans.

An interesting and realistic plot and a twisting plot. the whole plot is good but the end part is too rush to finish the story

We like it, Would like to see more of the actor, Jeremy Renner movie's. He was great in this.

This movie was pretty weak- I'm not going to enjoy a movie because it is tangentially related to certain political causes- No, the movie itself has to stand on it's own, which this film doesn't- it's hackneyed and cliched with some poor acting.

Very good.

The critic's opinion, shown, is not about this movie.
Once the movie was over, I had to go back and watch a pivotal scene again.
The pace of the movie is fairly slow, until the reveal of what happened. Pretty much how I expect an investigation like this is really paced. I liked it.

Then the phone rang which is never good. But today it was.
You're daughter's gone. Now the good news, as soon as you accept that, as soon as you let yourself suffer, allow yourself to grieve, You'll be able to visit her in your mind, and remember all the joy she gave you. All the love she knew.
The point is, Martin, you can't steer from the pain. If you do, you'll rob yourself. You'll rob yourself of every memory of her. Every last one. From the first step... to her last smile. You kill 'em all. Just take the pain, Martin. Do you hear me? You take it. It's the only way to keep her with you.
-I'm just tired, Cory. I'm just.. so tired of fighting this life.
What you do now you is for your boy.
-Drugs is his family now. He's gone too. Lives right down the damn
road, but it's... He's gone.

The Gannet Peak. Highest mountain in Wyoming. On the hottest day in August, still there's a feet of snow. Today, too cold to snow.
You know what it's like out here in this frozen hell? Ain't there nothing to do. No nothing. Aint no women, no fun. This is fxcking snow and the fxcking silence, that's all!
-My family's people were forced here. Stuck here for a century. That's snow and silence is the only thing that hasn't been taken from them. So what did you take?
I got lucky.
-Ah. well, luck don't live out here. Luck lives in the city. Don't live out here. It lives where you get hit by a bus or not. Where your bank is robbed or not. At someone's damn cell phone when he come up to a crosswalk. That's luck, that's winning or losing. Out here you survive or you surrender. That's determined by your strength and bare spirit. Wolves don't kill the unlucky deer. They kill the weak ones. You fought for your life Jane. And now you get to walk away with it. You'll get to go home.

(12-7-2017: Ojai officials said it was a “miracle” that fierce Santa Ana winds had subsided on Thursday ...)
I got my truck and a high out of there and I wound up in a little mountain town called Ojai. I get there and it's like fruit farms. Vineyards. And there is this mountain surrounding it you know like protecting the town. And the people there like everybody smiles at each other. They say hello. it's like I remember thinking they were all like. I don't know. They had these looks in their eyes. Like they ran on some sort of secret like they had all figured it out. There is this mission, the Spanish mission right there in the middle of the town. They are having Christmas mass. They're celebrating Christmas. 70 degrees where you know. I just land there. pick me an orange of the tree and sat down on a bench, to listen that choir singing, eating my orange. You know that was the best Christmas I've ever had.

A Meadow in My perfect world:
Here is a meadow
in my perfect world.
Where wind dances
the branches of the tree
casting leopards spots of light
across the face of pond.
The tree stands tall
and grand and alone,
shading the world beneath it.
There will come a day
when I rest against its spine
and look out over a valley
where the sun warms,
but never burns.
I will watch leaves turn
Green, then amber, then crimson.
Then no leaves at all.
But the tree will not die.
For in this place,
winter never comes.
It is here,
in the cradle of all I hold dear,
I guard every memory of you.
And when I find myself frozen
in the mud of the real
far from your loving eyes.
I will return to this place,
close mine, and take solace in the simple
perfection of knowing you.
That's cold enough to freeze a gold digger's ass out here.

get the hell out if thats what you wanted. You got the Army. You got College. Whatever is your choice. Look what you choose. Look what you chose. God damn you.
She was such a good girl. But we let our guard down. Yeah. Let me tell you. Maybe you'll have kids one day. You cannot blink. Not once, not ever.
We'll take the refinery road around.
-See you gotta drive 50 miles to go 5.

Where's your brother?
- He's in prison. Where you put him
Won't your daddy be proud?
- My dad's in prison, asshole..
I know, I put him there.
Look, I know you're looking for clues, but you're missing all the signs.
I'm telling you. The answer is out there.
Hey look... um... I don't know how to do this. Okay? I'm not a tracker.
That's okay, it's all I do.
These kids... they expect to go to prison. Hell, I think they look forward to it. You know? Three hoots, and a cot, and free cable? Anything better being here... the way they see it.

Man, i get so mad i want to fight the whole world. You got any idea what that feels like?
-I do. I decided to fight the feeling instead. Cause i figured the world would win.

Don't look at me. Hey, I'm used to no help.
-You have six officers on your entire force... to cover an area
the size of Rhode Island.
But I knew that girl. She was a fighter. So no matter how far you think she ran... I can guarantee you she ran farther.
I'm trying to help.
-Why is it whenever you people try to help, it starts with insults. I don't know why she didn't tell me. But she was eighteen. nd I chose to trust her. I chose wrong.

Ending quote: “While missing person statistics are compiled for every other demographic, none exist for Native American women.”
Shouldn't we wait for back up?
-This isn't the land of waiting for back up. This is the land of you're on your own.
You'd think folks would realize this isn't sheep country.
She got a job interview. Jackson, some hotel I think.
- Jackson Hole?
- Gonna live with the millionaires, eh?
Haven't heard about that, I think.. ..the billionaires chased out the millionaires years ago. Ah, save your money. When the wolves start eating their Golden Retrievers... that land's gonna go for pennies on the dollar.
Thermals can make underwear wedge up your bottom, but I guess yours are already there.
