It's hard to review this film without comparing it to the two other versions I've also seen recently. Branagh's version is so beautiful (and star-studded, of course) but I have to say it lacks the emotional intensity of the David Suchet TV version from 2010.

Poirot is in real turmoil when faced with the truth of this case in Suchet's version; by comparison, Branagh hardly seems bothered. But then again, Branagh captures Poirot better than Albert Finney did in the 1974 version.

All three productions have major stars in the supporting roles but here I'd give the edge to the Finney version: Bacall, Bergman, Bisset, Connery, Redgrave, Gielgud and so on.

Keeps you guessing until the end (although my husband had it figured out from the get-go). It's amazing how things get tied up at the very end.

David Suchet, the archetypal Poirot, or Albert Finney, a very interesting portrayal; however Kenneth Branagh has missed the mark with this horrible reinterpretation of Poirot in this Agatha Christie classic. Please don't waste your time on this version. It features a basket of big acting names shaken together and a mess is the regrettable outcome.
Truly a waste of time. If you want to see Branagh at his best see his Much Ado About Nothing with then wife Emma Thompson or his Hamlet. And if you want to see a great Johnny Depp see him in the Departed. He appears to be carrying that character into this role. As for the other actors they either do not need their greats listed (Judi Dench, Olivia Colman), or there is unfortunately nothing I can recommend.

This was a terrible mistake and for an Agatha Christie and Poirot fan like myself it is a waste of time. There are better choices.

An unforgivable waste of acting talent on this revisionist version of the story. Also, the unconscionable mutation/fusion of characters is an insult to the memory and genius of the lady who has personified "who done it" for generations. Watch the 1972 or the 2017 versions available at the library and toss this one in the trash heap of manipulative agenda-driven Hollywood movies.

I don't usually like to waste my time on negative reviews. Here, I will make an exception.
What a disappointment!
If you haven't seen this story yet, skip this one and see the 1974 theatrical release instead. More drama, less fluff; less 1/2 second attention span.
Note to the filmmakers: a lot of quick cuts and allusions to the glamourous good life do not equal repeated viewings.

Wha a waste of a stellar cast ensemble...sooo BORING!

kenneth branagh's take on murder on the orient express is terrific
it not only brings a wonderful cast with the likes of daisy ridley into this all star cast
but ken branagh also does a wonderful job as hercule poirot
this film is terrific : )

I did enjoy this movie based on an Agatha Christie novel. It had an all-star cast, and this movie was like a who done it type of movie where someone gets killed, and then the detective goes around and lists all the suspects on the train until he finds out who the mystery killer is. In other words this movie had both Mystery and Suspense.

Just don't bother. If you want a Hollywood version, watch the older film. Otherwise, stick to David Suchet's TV Poirot. Branagh & co should have known better, but this resembles his attempts at Shakespeare. Ill-cast, lousy adaptation of the novel, wooden acting. Two hours I'll never get back. Reminder to avoid remakes wherever possible.

Fabulous new version of the Agatha Christie mystery, directed and starring Kenneth Branagh. The casting and actors are excellent, the cinematography is gorgeous and offers some inventive shots and angles, the costumes and locations/sets are beautiful, the editing is well-paced and the music score by Patrick Doyle is memorable. Be sure to watch the bonus features. If you love learning about how films are made, watch the film a 2nd time with the Director's commentary on. I enjoyed the original film version back in the 1970s with Albert Finney and wondered how this one would stack up. Well, I'm glad to say this film, unlike so many films that are remade these days, is a worthy successor. I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did!
