I want to like this picture book more than I do. The illustrations of the little girl, aka Princess Truly, are great. She's downright adorable. But the rhymes are forced and the story doesn't make much sense: i.e. "We rock 'n' roll and draw a crowd. Our fans are cheering very loud. When the show is over, I wish that I could stay. But I'm feeling very sleepy. My curls will light the way. I love my fluffy, puffy hair. It is Truly divine. When I believe in myself, it shimmers and it shines!" I love your fluffy, puffy hair, too, Truly. I do. But you deserve a better story line to show how much you shine. Try instead "Mixed Me" by Taye Diggs and (local illustrator) Shane Evans, or "Happy to Be Nappy" by Bell Hooks and Christopher Raschka.
