A melancholic look at an immigrant Italian family in 1920's New York. The novel has a slow narrative and medium characterization. The novel chronicles one mother's tribulations in adjusting to a new life in American with her American born children. Okay to read if you are interested in the story or the author.
Puzo wrote this book with a hemorrhage of prose. Every sentence is overly descriptive, every character action is described with fifty words where three would suffice.
It is a slow, boring read and not at all defining the people it attempts to bring to life.
