1962.. PG. Typical Hollywood romance movie of its time. If you watch very closely, its about A high end prostitute woman and a male prostitute "gigilo", both "servicing" their clients.

Hollywood was VERY careful about how both were portrayed in this early 1960 era.
Holly does NOT have an "actual job" ; she sees a variety of "male clients" as their escort. PAUL is a "aspiring writer" plus he "services" a wealthy older woman and they both seem to have money in their pockets all the time ??? Hmmmmm???? Even the author Capote said Holly was a courtesan, a fancy term word for a prostitute.

Marilyn Monroe turned down the female lead as she did NOT want to be seen as a "prostitute character." Yes, Hepburn looks fantastic but she's a mess in personality and behavior. Most men would not put up with her bizarre antics. She even gets her PAUL to both of them to steal costume masks from a "5 & dime" like stealing is a fun game??

I thought it was cute movie for its time but overall, both characters were not accountable to society in actions nor behaviors. Mickey Rooney performed as stereo-typical "buck-tooth, blind as a bat" Japanese man in a stupid, totally racist performance as the comedic relief. But America was coming out of the 1950's into the 1960's and would not change their stereo-typical portrayal of ethnic folks for many years to come.

PS, I grew up in the 1950's - 1960s but I also understand film portrayals of people in that era.

I love this movie! It's a romcom in a unique way. It somehow mirror one's desire to chose between love or wealth.

This is classic Audrey Hepburn! I have to admit that it took me several viewings before I fully understood the plot of the movie. However, Breakfast At Tiffany's is wonderfully romantic and funny. I loved everything about it; from her no-name cat to Mr. Yunioshi. The music is classic 60s and the little black dress has never looked better! Holly is a confused, headstrong woman, who is looking for love. Little does she know that she doesnt have to look far! If you aren't an Audrey Hepburn fan after seeing this movie, you will be!

This was a film that I was reluctant to see, but I am glad I did. It has a great script - much more like a play than a Hollywood movie. The main character, Holly, as she is shown in the first part of the film has demented, I guestimate, almost four generations of young women, of a certain type (you will know what I mean when you see it). Just why the writer (Jack/ Fred) falls in love with Holly is shoved in, but it seems rather unbelievable.

Shallow and dated. Became annoyed at the halfway point because things just happened just because. The dialogue was awful, and nonstop. It got exhausting having every detail explained when it didn't need to, or was boring and unimportant. Maybe it would have been okay to have all that unrealistic talking a little bit, but I was acutely aware I was watching a movie. Nobody acted like a human being, and often acted like idiots to things that would be unacceptable in real life. Frankly, Holly is a spoiled Mary Sue, and the guy is clearly a self insert by the writer. Then you have the racist depiction of the upstairs neighbor, whose only real purpose in the story was to be an angry stereotype. Then you have the main song Moon River, which is fantastic, but is the only damn music played in the movie, with endless lazy variations. It doesn't fit the tone of the movie, and becomes distracting when the characters break the fourth wall and sing it. The best character in the movie is the cat. It really steals the show, and had way more screen presence than the actors.

Holly Golightly: "I'll tell you one thing, Fred, darling... I'd marry you for your money in a minute. Would you marry me for my money?" Paul Varjak: "In a minute." Holly Golightly: "I guess it's pretty lucky neither of us is rich, huh?" Paul Varjak: "Yeah."
