A Terrible Glory

Custer and the Little Bighorn-- the Last Great Battle of the American West

An excellent all round book on the subject. It didn't just focus on Custer but showed that there were others involved from privates to presidents. Well documented and well written it is a pleasure to read. Having read this and others on the subject, I have to think the critical decisions that led to Custer's death were his own. Also, having been the battle site I sometimes found the authors description of the terrain a touch confusing. That said more and better maps would have made this book better. If you have to read just one book on this topic, you could do a lot worse than this.
