Divergent takes place in a futuristic world where the society is split into five different groups or factions based on their characteristics and choice. The citizens of this society are placed into their respective factions once they reach adulthood. Tris Prior, the main character, chooses the Dauntless faction, which are those who prioritize bravery over anything else. One protocol for the choosing of a faction is an initiation, and during this initiation, it is discovered that Tris is a Divergent which means that she does not fit into one faction. However, being a Divergent is dangerous, and she becomes aware that she must conceal this identity of being Divergent, or risk the lives of everyone she loves.
This book was such a riveting tale as it had a great combination between highs and lows which is something that I really enjoyed about this book. My favorite part about Divergent was how unpredictable it was and it really kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. Right when I thought I knew what was going to happen, the plot shifted a completely different direction. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves an action-packed book replete with adversity.
