Grafton started her Kinsey Millhone mystery series in 1982 with A is for Alibi; she's now up to V is for Vengeance. Grafton's plots and characters have remained consistently good over 30 years. Various plot points have stayed with me years—decades!—after reading: the woman shot through the eyeball as she looks through her front door peephole, the plot that hinged on the colour of a hydrangea, the intricacies of shoplifting rings in the latest. If you're a mystery lover who somehow missed this series, start with A and keep on reading through the alphabet.
