Great entertainment, though not for late-night viewing: it kept me awake, anyway. The production values and photography brilliantly reproduce a wintry Minnesota. (Canada -- in this case Alberta -- looks more American than America.) The actors are terrific, too; to cite just one, Martin Freeman's transformation from nebbish to predator-wannabe. My chief objection is the often patronizing tone. The Coen brothers seem to think they're God. "Malvo" is short for "Malvolio" one who wills evil.
