a Child's Story of the Holocaust
Jul 11, 2017ArapahoeBethW rated this title 4 out of 5 stars
Vibrant, touching, heartbreaking. This sweet junior graphic novel packs a punch. Dounia Cohen opens up to her granddaughter recalling her story of survival as a young girl in France during the Holocaust. Definitely a welcome addition to the literature that continues to educate readers young and old about what happened to everyday people. Hidden manages to show both the dark and light. The terror, sadness, and fear, but also the beauty and generosity of neighbors and strangers. One of the most powerful parts is in the end where it is quietly revealed how complex and difficult it is for Dounia, our survivor and heroine, to talk about her story
