As a longtime fan, I'm cautiously aware of King's tendency to be verbose, and this is why I hesitated to begin the lengthy 11/22/63. But once I did, I was under its spell right from the start. There's real story magic here. The tale of Jake Epping and his forays though time (he calls it "going down the Rabbit Hole") is one that needs room to breathe, grow and take hold. The backdrop is colored with so many precise historical details that following along may seem overwhelming at times, but once you're into the story it should be quite effortless. In the afterword, King mentions that he conceived of and subsequently abandoned this JFK story idea early in his career due to the amount of research required. That foresight to wait has paid off. 11/22/63 is a mature novel that only a seasoned author with a patient pen could tell properly.
