I'd have to say P.D. James is one of my favorite writers, and her early book Shroud for a Nightingale (which takes place in an old-fashioned hospital in England) is one of my favorites. Like a good Agatha Christie, you can read James's book again and again, even after you know "who done it" !!

My favorite book of poetry for adults is probably The Gold Cell by Sharon Olds. Some dark and strange poems, but also triumphant and fierce poetry about raising children and marriage. I have so many "favorite" books of poetry, it's very hard to choose just one.
